Where did 100 GB on your Mac just go?

Modern AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Ollama) silently litter your drive with dozens of orphaned Git worktrees and multi-gigabyte model weights. Prunebird is an engineer-built workspace vacuum, localhost server radar, and Mach kernel hardware monitor.

01 • The Problem

The hidden SSD nightmare of modern AI engineering

When you code with Claude Code, Cursor, Docker, and Git, background processes silently create gigabytes of orphaned data across hidden folders.

  • Detached worktrees: AI agents create isolated workspaces in ~/.claude/worktrees that persist indefinitely after crashes.
  • Duplicated node_modules: Every branched worktree duplicates 1–2 GB of npm dependencies.
  • Severe swap choking: macOS starts freezing and compressing swap once disk free space falls below 15–20%.

02 • Worktree Vacuum

Safe vacuum cleaner for AI agents & Git branches

Prunebird inspects Git metadata in pure Swift without executing risky shell commands behind your back.

  • Strict Safety Barriers: Hardcoded rules refuse to touch your primary branch (main/master) or any worktree with dirty uncommitted changes.
  • Trash-First Policy: We never run rm -rf. Items are sent to the native macOS Trash (NSWorkspace.recycle) for instant recovery.
  • Claude & Cursor Fingerprints: Automatically spots scratch worktrees spawned by autonomous agents.

03 • Localhost Radar

Eliminate "Port 3000 already in use" forever

Real-time local port listener, HTTP health probes, PID killer, and instant mobile QR code pairing.

  • Live Latency Probing: Regular millisecond ping checks and status code inspections (200 OK, 404, 500).
  • 1-Click Process Kill: Terminate zombie Node, Python, or Go servers without opening Terminal to run lsof.
  • iPhone QR Pairing: Auto-discovers your LAN IP (e.g. 192.168.1.140) and renders a QR code for mobile testing.

Identify Electron resource hogs & code signatures

Understand which applications respect your Mac's battery and RAM, and which are wrapped web pages.

  • Native vs Electron: Prunebird parses Mach-O headers and framework bundles to spot Chromium runtimes.
  • Hardened Runtime & Gatekeeper: Fast validation of Apple Developer ID signatures and sandbox entitlements.
  • Energy Impact: Flags apps that prevent system sleep and drain battery while running in the background.

05 • Hardware Telemetry

Zero third-party kernel extensions (kexts) — pure Mach Kernel and IOKit system calls.

  • P-Core & E-Core Topology: Watch workload distribution across Performance and Efficiency cores.
  • Wired & Swap Memory: True RAM pressure and wired memory metrics rather than misleading generic graphs.
  • SSD Endurance & TBW: Real-time S.M.A.R.T. health and Total Bytes Written tracking.

Engineered to solve real frustrations

No boilerplate marketing gimmicks. Every tool was made to fix tangible problems while developing on macOS.

AI Agent Git Worktree Vacuum

Coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor) create isolated worktrees in ~/.claude/worktrees or .git/worktrees that stick around indefinitely after errors. Prunebird tracks them down and recycles them to Trash.

git worktree Claude Code Cursor

Localhost Port Radar & Latency Probes

Instantly see which ports (3000, 4200, 5173, 8080) are occupied. Measure real HTTP roundtrip response times (ping in ms), check 200/404 statuses, inspect PID, and kill stalled dev servers in 1 click.

Instant Phone QR Codes & LAN IP

Testing responsive mobile designs on an actual iPhone? Prunebird generates an on-screen QR code pointing to your Mac's LAN IP (e.g. http://192.168.1.140:3000). Scan with your camera and test right away.

Questions & Answers

Frequently asked questions

Can Prunebird accidentally delete my code or uncommitted changes?

Never. Prunebird has hardcoded safety barriers written in pure Swift: it strictly refuses to touch your primary branch (main/master) or any worktree with uncommitted changes (dirty state). Furthermore, every deletion moves files safely to the macOS Trash (NSWorkspace.recycle) so you can put them back anytime.

How does the Mac App Store sandbox work?

In the Mac App Store version, Prunebird operates strictly within Apple's App Sandbox. You authorize your project folders (e.g. ~/Projects) once using macOS Security-Scoped Bookmarks. Prunebird remembers them across restarts without needing full disk access.

What makes Prunebird different from generic cleaners like CleanMyMac?

Generic cleaners look for language packs and Safari caches. Prunebird was built from the ground up specifically for software engineers and AI practitioners: it understands Git worktrees, Claude Code/Cursor caches, Ollama model weights, node_modules bloat, and localhost dev server ports.
